EFCC Recovers ₦84m for Edo Businessman After Failed Land Deal

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recovered and returned ₦84 million to Edo businessman Ekhahon Abraham following a failed property transaction.

The commission handed over the recovered money to Abraham on Friday, September 25, 2026.

According to the EFCC, Abraham paid the money to Anita Eborome for a parcel of land measuring about 115ft by 135ft in Edo State.

After payment, Abraham reportedly erected a perimeter fence on the property.

The fence was later pulled down by another man who claimed ownership of the land.

Abraham subsequently requested a refund from Eborome but was unable to recover the money, prompting him to petition the EFCC.

The commission said its investigation established that Abraham transferred the money to Eborome and alleged that the funds were diverted for personal use.

The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, presented the ₦84 million draft to Abraham.

Sa’ad said the commission would continue to carry out its responsibilities professionally and ensure that people involved in fraudulent transactions do not benefit from the proceeds.

The recovery comes shortly after the Benin Zonal Directorate also returned ₦80 million to another businessman, Ifeanyi Innocent Madueke, in a separate land transaction case involving property in Delta State.

Meanwhile, EFCC, NBA Strengthen Anti-Corruption Collaboration in Edo

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC and the Nigerian Bar Association, Benin Branch, have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the fight against economic and financial crimes in Edo State.

The agreement followed a courtesy visit by newly elected executives of the NBA Benin Branch to the EFCC office in Benin City.

NBA Benin Branch Chairman Omorodion Omoigui led the delegation and said the visit was aimed at strengthening the working relationship between the legal body and the anti-graft agency.

The two organizations discussed areas of cooperation in tackling financial crimes and improving engagement between legal practitioners and the commission.

The EFCC said stronger collaboration with the NBA would support its efforts to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes in the state.
