₦100m Business Grant: Okpebholo Promises Support for Uwelu Spare Parts Traders

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised a ₦100 million business grant to traders at the Uwelu Spare Parts Market in Benin City.

The governor announced the grant during a visit to the market on Friday, September 25, 2026, where he met with traders and discussed challenges affecting their businesses.

Okpebholo said the money would be provided to support traders and improve commercial activities in the market.

He advised the traders to form a cooperative society if they did not already have one, explaining that the cooperative would make it easier for them to access the proposed funds.

The governor said he expected the grant to be made available before the end of December 2026.

“I want to give you people money to do your business before now to December 2026. I will give you ₦100 million naira to do your business,” Okpebholo told the traders.

Okpebholo also promised to reconstruct the Uwasota-Uwelu Road, which traders said has affected movement and business activities in the area.

He said he would return to inspect the commencement of work on the road and also assess a secondary school in the area for possible government intervention.

The Chairman of the Uwelu Spare Parts Market, Osemwengie Enogumwengie, appealed to the governor to address the condition of the road linking Uwasota and Egor, saying its poor state had affected traders and other road users.

The Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Osaro Eribo, also said the council had compiled a list of failed roads requiring attention and would begin repairs on some sections within the local government area.

During the visit, Okpebholo also said development projects being carried out by his administration were supported by funds received from the Federal Government.

He described President Bola Tinubu as the right person to lead the country and urged residents to continue supporting his administration.

The governor was accompanied to the market by his Chief of Staff, Yakubu Musa; former Edo State Deputy Governor Pius Odubu; Edo APC Deputy Chairman Sylvester Aigboboh; and other government and party officials.
