Edo Carnival 2026 will hold in Benin City from December 13 to December 26, 2026, with organisers planning 14 days of cultural, entertainment and business activities across the state capital.

This year’s edition is themed “The Spirit of Edo” and will feature parades, music, food, fashion, pageantry, arts and other activities aimed at showcasing Edo culture and attracting visitors to the state.

Where will Edo Carnival 2026 hold?

The carnival will take place in Benin City, with the Carnival Village expected at Garrick Memorial Ground on Ekehuan Road.

Activities are expected to run across different locations during the two-week programme, while the carnival village will serve as one of the main centres for participants, vendors and visitors.

What activities are planned for the Edo Carnival?

The programme includes a wide range of events for residents and visitors.

Activities announced for the carnival include:

Organizers also plan a parade and band competition involving six carnival bands.

Six bands will compete

Six bands have been announced for the 2026 parade.

They are Idia Band, Phoenix Band, Heritage Band, Bronze Band, Dynasty Band and Igodomigodo Band.

Each band has a different colour and theme linked to Edo history, culture and identity.

Residents interested in participating in the parade can register to join one of the bands.

Registration for Edo Carnival has opened

Registration is already open for people who want to take part in the carnival.

Participants can register as band members, vendors, media personnel, volunteers or pageant contestants.

Organizers said registration reserves a place, while accreditation will be handled separately before the event.

What should businesses expect?

The carnival is expected to increase activity in hotels, restaurants, transport services, fashion, food vending, entertainment and retail businesses.

The Edo State Government says it is targeting more than ₦1 billion in economic activity during the carnival and expects close to 100,000 participants across the programme.

The government said the 2025 edition attracted more than 10,000 people and involved local costume makers, food vendors and other small businesses.

What residents should expect in Benin City

Residents should expect increased movement around major event venues, particularly during parade and concert days.

The Edo State Police Command has said security assessments have already been carried out for the carnival.

Police authorities said a control centre would be established at the carnival venue, while security would also be strengthened at entry points into the state and around major event locations.

Traffic arrangements and specific road diversions have not yet been announced.

Residents planning activities around Ekehuan Road and other carnival locations may therefore need to watch for further announcements as December approaches.

Vendors and creatives can also participate

The carnival is expected to create opportunities for food vendors, fashion designers, musicians, filmmakers, dancers, visual artists and other creative professionals.

Businesses interested in selling food, drinks, crafts, fashion products and other items can also apply through the carnival registration process.

Registration for Edo Carnival 2026 is open through the official carnival website.

Interested participants can apply as a band member, vendor, volunteer, media representative or pageant contestant.

Applicants are expected to complete the relevant registration form and provide the required details. After registration, a confirmation code will be sent to the email address provided.

Those joining the street parade can also select from the available carnival bands during registration.
