3:30pm — Edo Generates Over ₦93 Billion in IGR Under Okpebholo, Revenue Chairman Reveals 

 

The Edo State Government has generated more than ₦93 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, according to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Otunba Oladele Bankole-Balogun.

Speaking while reviewing the administration’s first year in office, Bankole-Balogun said the increase was driven by reforms aimed at improving tax collection, expanding the tax net and reducing revenue leakages through technology.

He also disclosed that Edo now has over one million registered taxpayers, while the state has strengthened electronic tax payment systems to make collections more transparent and efficient.

12:00pm — Okpebholo Names 20 New Permanent Secretaries for Edo Civil Service

Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of 20 new permanent secretaries in the Edo State Public Service, a move that expands the senior administrative leadership of the state.

The appointments were announced by the Head of Service, Dr Anthony Osas Okungbowa, who said the affected officers will be sworn in on a date to be announced later.

Those appointed are:

  • Irusota Pauline Ighoomo

  • Bamaiyi Rebecca Osedebamen

  • Anelu Wilson Oziegbe

  • Ukpebor Ehiabhi Jonathan

  • Erhaze Samson

  • Sadoh Martins Imonmion

  • Otamere Enodolomwanyi

  • Enabulele Abdulfatai Ikponmwonsa

  • Akhimien Emmanuel Eboreime

  • Obanor John Osarobo

  • Aliu Nurudeen Obogai

  • Balogun Aiyegbeni Aina

  • Imoisili Edith Amenawon

  • Momoh-Odihinrin Justina Akhazimeye

  • Ozigbo Osayande Duke

  • Eigbiremolen Godson Tunde

The new appointments come as the state government continues efforts to strengthen the administrative structure of the civil service and improve service delivery across ministries, departments and agencies.

Dr Okungbowa signed the public notice announcing the appointments on behalf of the Edo State Government.

7:15 AM — Two Arrested as Edo Task Force Cracks Down on Suspected Stolen Vehicle Network

The Edo State Task Force has seized three vehicles believed to have been stolen and recovered from the suspected leader of a car theft syndicate. The recovered vehicles include a Toyota Camry, a Toyota Sienna, and a Toyota Corolla.

Speaking to journalists at the task force office within the Government House in Benin City, the Edo State Task Force Station Officer, Mr. Rufus Johnbull, disclosed that preliminary investigations showed the vehicles were stolen in Anambra State before being transported to Edo.

Johnbull expressed appreciation to residents of Edo State for providing useful information that contributed to the success of the operation. He explained that the task force had been monitoring the activities of the suspected gang for about two weeks after receiving reliable intelligence. According to him, the breakthrough came on July 12 when operatives successfully tracked down and arrested the alleged ringleader.

 

 

 

6:45 AM — New Edo Agriculture College Law Takes Effect

The Edo State Government is set to begin implementing the newly signed law renaming the state-owned School of Agriculture as the Edo State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.

The institution will operate from three campuses, with Iguoriakhi serving as the main campus, while Uromi and Agenebode will focus on forestry and aquaculture respectively.

State officials say the change is aimed at strengthening agricultural training and preparing students for modern farming and technology-driven agriculture.

 

 

 

6:40 AM — BEDC Tightens Security After Fatal Substation Incident

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) says it is reviewing security around its facilities following the death of a suspected vandal at the Etete Injection Substation in Benin City.

The company said the suspect was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to remove electrical cables from the facility. BEDC has appealed to residents to report suspicious movements around substations and transformers to help protect electricity infrastructure.

Police have since visited the scene as the incident remains under investigation.

6:30 AM — Police Continue Investigation Into Attempted MTN Facility Vandalism

The Edo State Police Command is currently investigating an attack on MTN ,  after two suspects were arrested over an attempted attack on an MTN telecommunications facility along Sapele Road in Benin City.

Officers recovered weapons during the operation, while investigators are working to identify other members of the group believed to be involved in the incident.

The police have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to protect  infrastructure across Edo state.

6:15 AM — Welders Seek Better Electricity as Government Promises Relief

Power supply remains one of the major concerns raised by artisans in Edo, with members of the Edo State Welders Association begging the state government to improve electricity for their businesses.

After a Successful meeting with Governor Monday Okpebholo, he promised the association that work is progressing on a 100-megawatt power project expected to improve electricity supply in major parts of the state. He also said similar projects are planned for Edo North and Edo Central.
