An Open Rebuke to Senator (Barr.) Neda Imasuen: Why His Alliance With Orobosa Omo-Ojo Could Backfire

Dear Distinguished Senator Neda Imasuen,

With concern for the future of Edo South politics and the promise of your own emerging legacy, I write this open letter. Your election as Senator for Edo South and your recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) represent a new chapter for our region, one long in search of credible and unifying leadership. But your decision to appoint Orobosa Omo-Ojo as head of your media team raises serious questions about judgment, loyalty, and the sustainability of your political structure.

This concern is not borne of hearsay but of Omo-Ojo’s public record, which is available for scrutiny.

A Troubled History in Edo Politics

Omo-Ojo’s tenure as Edo State Commissioner for Transport under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole ended in 2015. His removal, according to contemporaneous reports, was linked to incompetence and controversies in office. Following his exit, Omo-Ojo authored and published “Breach of Trust: An Eyewitness Account of Political Events in Edo State Before and Under Adams Oshiomhole’s Watch” in 2016.

In that book, he made sweeping allegations — including claims that Oshiomhole squandered billions of naira on a government portal, granted questionable tax waivers, and pursued wasteful projects. Oshiomhole dismissed the book as a “tissue of lies,” while the then Edo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described it as poorly researched and politically motivated.

Omo-Ojo did not stop there. He published critical articles across national dailies — including The Sun, Vanguard, and Tribune — often portraying Oshiomhole’s administration in damaging terms. Political insiders at the time described these publications as attempts to regain political relevance through pressure and provocation.

A Pattern of Disruption

Similar efforts were reportedly made to ingratiate himself with the current Governor Monday Okpebholo administration. According to sources within Government House, those efforts were rejected. Today, however, Omo-Ojo has found a new platform — your office.

Already, there are signs of friction. In a recent Vanguard article, he attributed controversial claims to members of your media team, effectively creating suspicion within your camp and raising doubts among APC stakeholders. This strategy of planting discord has been observed before: undermining aides and allies to position himself as the indispensable voice in the room.

Risks to Your Political Future

Senator, your political journey within the APC is just beginning. Your role as a bridge between factions in Edo South gives you rare leverage to unify interests and strengthen the party’s foothold. But aligning with a figure whose past is defined by controversies, strained relationships, and credibility challenges could undermine your momentum.

The APC in Edo is already facing delicate internal negotiations ahead of 2027. Introducing an element of distrust through your media operations risks isolating you from party stakeholders who should be your strongest allies.

A Call for Reconsideration

Your promise as a legislator is significant, and Edo South is eager for leadership that prioritizes service, not personal battles. I urge you to reflect carefully on this appointment. Surround yourself with tested professionals whose integrity is recognized and whose loyalty is consistent.

The lessons of Edo politics are clear: those who invite division into their own camp often pay the heaviest price. For the sake of your career, your constituents, and the progress of our state, I appeal to you to reconsider this decision.

History will not forgive those who compromise their legacy for expedience. Edo South deserves better.
