2027 Election: Oshiomhole, Igbinedion Among 77 Candidates Cleared for Edo NASS Race

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and former House of Representatives member Omosede Igbinedion are among the 77 candidates cleared to contest the 2027 National Assembly elections in Edo State.

The final candidate data shows that the race for Edo’s seats in the National Assembly will feature 26 candidates for the Senate and 51 candidates for the House of Representatives.

Oshiomhole is seeking another term representing Edo North Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor, who currently represents Edo North in the Senate, is one of the biggest political names on the list as parties prepare for the January 16, 2027 National Assembly election.

Igbinedion is also returning to the National Assembly contest, with the APC candidate seeking to represent Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The two politicians are among the names likely to attract attention as campaigning for the 2027 election gathers momentum across the state.

The final list also includes candidates from several political parties competing for the three senatorial seats and nine House of Representatives constituencies in Edo.

For the Senate, the five female candidates are Herberta Okonofua of the ADC and Evelyn Adudu of the APM in Edo Central, Maria Oisamoje of the NDC in Edo North, and Osahenoma Ekhorutomwen of the ADP and Brigitte Epelle-Asemota of the NDC in Edo South.

The House of Representatives race includes Abimbola Eragbe of the Labour Party and Elizabeth Jemitola of the PDP in Akoko-Edo, Rabietu Momodu of the Labour Party in Etsako, and Omosede Igbinedion of the APC in Ovia among the female candidates.

The candidate list also features a new generation of politicians seeking to make their mark in Edo’s federal representation.

Shedrach Udugbai of the ADC, aged 33, is the youngest candidate identified in the list. He is contesting the Owan East/Owan West constituency.

At the other end of the age range is Oshiomhole, who at 75 is the oldest candidate cleared for the Edo National Assembly contest.

The figures show that the 77 candidates are drawn from a wide range of political parties, with voters set to choose their preferred representatives in the Senate and House of Representatives next January.

The 2027 National Assembly election will be held on January 16, 2027, while the Edo governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

With the final candidates now cleared, attention will turn to the campaigns and the contest for Edo’s representation in Abuja.
