Edo Police Arrest 69 Suspects, Rescue 9 Kidnap Victims

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 69 suspects over various crimes across the state and rescued nine kidnapped victims during operations carried out in August 2026.

The State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed the figures while briefing journalists on the command’s activities and achievements during the month.

According to the commissioner, the arrests were linked to alleged cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, human trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence, as well as store breaking and stealing.

Daaor said 13 suspects were arrested in connection with alleged kidnapping, while 14 suspects were arrested over armed robbery.

The command also arrested 19 suspected cultists, six suspects linked to alleged human trafficking and five suspects in connection with store breaking and stealing.

Another 12 suspects were arrested over alleged sexual and gender-based violence during the period.

Beyond the arrests, the commissioner said police operations across Edo State led to the rescue of nine kidnapped victims from captivity.

The command also recovered several weapons, ammunition and stolen vehicles during the operations.

Items recovered included eight stolen vehicles, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one pump-action rifle, six magazines and 200 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.

The commissioner assured residents that the command would continue its operations against criminal elements and intensify efforts to protect lives and property across Edo State.

The latest figures come as the police command continues to target kidnapping, cult-related activities, armed robbery and other crimes reported across different parts of the state.
