The Edo State Government has appointed comedian and musician Maleke Idowu Moye as the new Director-General of the Edo State Orientation Agency (ESOA).
The appointment was approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo and takes effect from August 11, 2026.
The development was contained in an official appointment letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
The letter stated that the appointment was made with the approval of the Executive Governor of Edo State.
Maleke’s appointment brings a familiar figure from Edo’s entertainment industry into a government position focused on public orientation, civic awareness and communication with residents.
What the Edo State Orientation Agency Does
The Edo State Orientation Agency is responsible for promoting government programmes and policies through public enlightenment and orientation.
The agency serves as an important link between the government and the people, particularly in communicating information on government initiatives, encouraging civic responsibility and helping residents understand issues affecting the state.
Its work can involve public enlightenment campaigns, community engagement, civic education and the dissemination of information designed to improve public awareness.
The agency also has a role in shaping public understanding of government policies and encouraging residents to participate responsibly in the affairs of the state.
For Maleke, the new assignment therefore extends beyond his background in entertainment. His responsibilities as Director-General will involve working within the public sector and helping the agency communicate with residents across Edo State.
Who Is Maleke Idowu Moye?
Maleke Idowu Moye, popularly known simply as Maleke, is a Benin-born entertainer known primarily for comedy and music.
Biographical accounts identify him as having been born in Benin City and educated in Edo State before studying Business Administration at Auchi Polytechnic.
He began building his profile in Nigeria’s comedy industry through performances on comedy platforms, including the popular Nite of a Thousand Laughs, and went on to work alongside several established Nigerian comedians and entertainers.
His career has not been limited to comedy. Maleke has also been involved in music and has released songs and albums during his years in the entertainment industry.
His comedy and public performances have often drawn on social and everyday issues, helping him develop a strong connection with audiences in Edo and beyond.
Maleke Has Previously Worked With Edo Government
The new appointment is not Maleke’s first involvement with the Edo State Government.
He has previously served in a government-related role focusing on entertainment matters. He has also been associated with the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) in Edo State.
That experience in entertainment and public engagement gives him previous exposure to government and stakeholder relations, although his new position comes with a wider public-orientation responsibility.
His appointment also places a well-known Edo entertainer in charge of an agency whose work depends heavily on communication, public engagement and understanding of issues affecting residents.
New Role Comes With More Responsibility
As Director-General, Maleke will be expected to provide leadership for the Edo State Orientation Agency and oversee its activities in line with the objectives of the state government.
The position requires more than public visibility. The agency’s effectiveness depends on how well government information reaches communities and how effectively public enlightenment programmes connect with residents.
This makes communication a central part of the new assignment.
The appointment also comes at a time when state governments increasingly rely on public engagement to explain policies, programmes and decisions to citizens.
For Maleke, who has spent years communicating with audiences through entertainment, the new role represents a shift from the entertainment stage into a formal government responsibility.
Appointment Takes Effect From August 11
According to the appointment letter, Maleke Idowu Moye’s appointment as Director-General of the Edo State Orientation Agency took effect on August 11, 2026.
He will now lead the agency as the Edo State Government continues its public enlightenment and civic orientation activities across the state.
The appointment adds another notable name from Edo’s entertainment community to the state’s public service structure.
