UNIBEN Recruitment 2026: University of Benin Opens Applications for Teaching and Non-Teaching Jobs

The University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, has opened applications for qualified candidates to fill teaching and non-teaching positions across the university.

The recruitment covers academic, research, administrative, technical, health, library and other support positions. The university has listed vacancies across several faculties, schools, departments, centres and units.

According to the official recruitment advertisement, applications are to be submitted online through the UNIBEN employment portal.

UNIBEN Recruitment 2026: Available Teaching Positions

The teaching vacancies cover a wide range of academic disciplines.

Some of the areas listed in the advertisement include Agriculture, Arts, Communication and Media Studies, Computing, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law, Library, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Vocational and Technical Education.

Applicants can find vacancies at different academic levels, including Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Assistant Lecturer and Graduate Assistant, depending on the department and position.

There are also research positions at the Petroleum and Energy Systems Research Centre, African Centre for Management and Leadership, and Centre for Federalism and Democratic Studies.

Academic qualification requirements

UNIBEN states that the basic qualification for teaching positions is a first degree not below Second-Class Upper Division, or a Second-Class Lower Division with a PhD.

For senior academic positions, applicants must meet additional requirements relating to their qualifications, teaching or research experience and publications.

For example, the Senior Lecturer position requires a PhD, at least five years of teaching experience and a minimum of eight peer-reviewed publications.

Lecturer I and II positions require a PhD or Master’s degree, together with at least three years of teaching experience and a minimum of three peer-reviewed publications.

Applicants for Assistant Lecturer positions require a Master’s degree, with a PhD in progress, as well as evidence of teaching and research potential or experience.

Graduate Assistant applicants must have a first degree with at least Second-Class Upper Division, while First-Class degree holders are encouraged to apply.

The university is also recruiting for a range of non-teaching positions.

Some non-teaching qualification requirements

The requirements vary according to the position.

For example, an Administrative Assistant requires a good honours degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Law or Education, not below Second-Class Lower Division, as well as computer literacy and an NYSC certificate.

A Higher Executive Officer position requires either a Third-Class degree or a good HND not below Lower Credit in the specified non-science disciplines, alongside computer literacy and an NYSC certificate.

For an Executive Officer, applicants need a good ND not below Lower Credit or NCE in non-science courses and must be computer literate.

The university has also listed professional and technical positions. For instance, the Senior Radiographer position requires a good honours degree in Radiography, registration with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, and post-intern and NYSC certificates.

The Architect II position requires a relevant degree or HND in Architecture, registrable with ARCON, while the Engineer II positions require a B.Eng. degree not below Second-Class Lower Division and an NYSC certificate.

Candidates interested in programming positions can apply for Chief Programmer, Principal Programmer II or Senior Programmer, subject to the stated academic and experience requirements. The Chief Programmer position, for example, requires a good degree in Computer Science or Informatics not below Second-Class Lower Division, or an equivalent professional qualification, plus at least 12 years of post-qualification cognate programming experience.

Documents required for UNIBEN recruitment

Applicants are required to submit their applications through the online portal.

For teaching applications, candidates must upload soft copies of their application letter, detailed Curriculum Vitae and passport photograph.

The university has also specified the information that should appear in the CV for teaching applicants. This includes academic and professional qualifications, employment history, teaching and research experience, publications, research in progress, professional memberships, community service and the names and addresses of three referees.

Teaching applicants are also expected to include their Google Scholar ID and ORCID ID in their CV.

For non-teaching applicants, the CV should contain their personal information, position applied for, educational and professional qualifications, work experience, publications where applicable, professional memberships, community service, extracurricular activities and details of three referees.

Referee requirement

Applicants should pay attention to the referee requirement.

The university says referees must send their reports directly to the Registrar under confidential seal not later than one week after the close of applications.

The subject heading of the report must contain the applicant’s name and the position applied for.

At least one referee must be from the applicant’s current or most recent place of employment.

The documents listed by the university include academic and professional certificates, NYSC certificate, birth certificate or age declaration, and evidence of state and local government of origin.

The university also states that computer literacy is required for all positions.
