Tinubu Approves Fresh Recruitment Into Federal Civil Service Across All States

Fresh Recruitment Into Federal Civil Service

SHARES

President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Civil Service following a verification exercise carried out by the Federal Government.

The approval affects teachers who have been working in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges, with some of the beneficiaries having served for several years without permanent appointments.

The development was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who said the affected teachers had been identified and verified through an inter-ministerial screening process.

According to the minister, the verified teachers cut across three categories: Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.

The approval is expected to provide the affected teachers with a pathway into permanent federal government employment once the required statutory procedures are completed.

Federal Government Approves 3,252 Teacher Appointments

The Federal Government’s decision followed a verification exercise conducted by an inter-ministerial committee.

The committee reviewed the identities, employment records and service history of PTA teachers working in federal schools before producing the final list of 3,252 eligible teachers.

The exercise covered teachers serving in Federal Unity Colleges as well as Federal Technical Colleges.

Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the move would help address the long-standing employment uncertainty faced by teachers who have continued to work in federal schools without being formally absorbed into the Federal Civil Service.

Some of the affected teachers have reportedly spent many years working in the schools, with some having served for up to 25 years.

What the New Federal Civil Service Approval Means

The approval means the verified teachers can now be regularised into the mainstream Federal Civil Service, subject to the completion of the necessary administrative processes.

For years, PTA teachers have helped federal schools fill teaching vacancies and maintain staffing levels.

However, their employment arrangements have differed from those of teachers directly employed by the Federal Government.

The latest approval is therefore expected to give the verified beneficiaries greater employment security while allowing the government to retain teachers with years of experience within the federal school system.

The Education Ministry said formal appointment letters will be issued after the remaining statutory requirements have been concluded.

Is the Federal Government Opening a New Recruitment Portal?

Job seekers should note an important point about the announcement.

The approval of the 3,252 positions is not a general recruitment exercise open to all Nigerians.

The beneficiaries have already been identified through the government-led verification exercise.

Therefore, members of the public should be wary of websites, social media posts or individuals claiming that a new application portal has been opened for the 3,252 positions.

Anyone interested in federal government employment should wait for recruitment announcements relating specifically to vacancies that are open to the general public.

Tinubu Administration Links Move to Education Reforms

The Federal Government said the decision is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system and improve staffing in federal schools.

The Education Ministry believes bringing experienced PTA teachers into the formal public service could help improve the teacher-to-student ratio while preserving the experience of workers who have already spent years in the federal school system.

Alausa also said investment in teachers remains central to improving the quality of education in the country.

The government is expected to work with relevant agencies to complete the processes required for the affected teachers to receive their formal appointments.

What Job Seekers Should Know

The latest development will attract attention from job seekers across Nigeria, including applicants and education workers in Edo State.

However, the 3,252 positions should not be confused with a new nationwide recruitment portal.

The approved beneficiaries are existing PTA teachers who were screened and verified by the Federal Government.

For Nigerians searching for federal government jobs, the safest approach is to rely on official recruitment announcements and avoid paying individuals who claim they can secure government employment.

The development nevertheless signals another change in the Federal Government’s approach to staffing and employment in public schools, particularly for workers who have spent years serving under temporary or non-permanent arrangements.

EdoToday will continue to monitor federal recruitment announcements and major employment opportunities that may be relevant to job seekers across Edo State and Nigeria.
