He disclosed that the university has invested heavily in modern laboratories, simulation centres, anatomy facilities, digital learning infrastructure and research equipment to support the new programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor added that experienced professors, medical consultants and other healthcare professionals have been recruited to ensure students receive quality training that meets national and international standards.
He also revealed that arrangements have been concluded for students’ clinical training through designated teaching and specialist hospitals, while the university continues to work towards obtaining all required professional approvals, including accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for the MBBS programme.
Ajayi assured prospective students and parents that the institution would continue to comply with the quality assurance standards of both the NUC and relevant professional regulatory bodies.
The university will begin admitting its first set of students into the newly approved programmes during the 2026/2027 academic session.
He advised interested candidates to obtain admission information through the university’s Admissions Office or its official website, noting that admissions into the medical programmes would strictly follow guidelines established by the NUC, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other regulatory agencies.
Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor said the introduction of the programmes aligns with the university’s vision of contributing to efforts aimed at addressing Nigeria’s shortage of doctors and other healthcare professionals.
He expressed confidence that the programmes would contribute to improving healthcare manpower in Edo State and across the country while promoting research, innovation and community-based healthcare initiatives.
