The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has officially released the names of 72 candidates shortlisted for the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title for the year 2025.

This was disclosed in a public statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

According to the announcement, the shortlisted candidates include 57 advocates and 15 academics, carefully selected in line with the LPPC’s laid-down guidelines. However, the LPPC emphasized that the publication of the shortlist does not automatically translate to the conferment of the SAN rank.

Public Input Invited

As part of its vetting process, the LPPC has called on members of the public to submit any information relevant to the integrity, competence, or reputation of the candidates listed. All submissions must be:

  • Accompanied by a verifying affidavit sworn before a court of record or a Notary Public

  • Made in twenty (20) copies

  • Sent to the LPPC before the final interview phase

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the SAN rank, which remains one of the highest honors in the Nigerian legal profession.
