Edo Specialist Hospital Celebrates 7 Years of Excellence, Showcases Major Healthcare Milestones

Edo Specialist Hospital on Thursday marked its 7th anniversary with a grand celebration that brought together top government officials, healthcare professionals, traditional leaders, captains of industry, development partners and other stakeholders to celebrate seven years of excellence in specialist healthcare delivery in Edo State.

The anniversary, themed “ESH at 7: Consolidating Gains, Advancing Excellence in Specialist Healthcare Delivery,” served as an opportunity to reflect on the hospital’s journey since its establishment in 2019 and to showcase its achievements in specialist healthcare, medical education, patient care and infrastructure development.

Among dignitaries at the event were representatives of the Edo State Government, members of the State Executive Council, healthcare leaders, professional bodies, heads of institutions and the Vice Chancellor of Mudiame University, Irrua, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor.

Tribute to Founder, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole

A major highlight of the celebration was the acknowledgement of the visionary leadership of former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole, under whose administration the foundation for Edo Specialist Hospital was laid.

Although the former governor was unavoidably absent, he was represented at the anniversary celebration by his son, Mr. Cyril Oshiomhole, who joined other distinguished guests in commemorating the hospital’s remarkable journey over the past seven years.

Speakers at the event recognised Comrade Oshiomhole’s foresight in establishing the specialist hospital, describing it as a legacy project that has continued to transform healthcare delivery and improve access to quality specialist medical services for residents of Edo State and beyond.

Governor Okpebholo Commended for Sustaining Progress

The administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo was also commended for sustaining the growth of Edo Specialist Hospital through continuous investment in healthcare infrastructure, medical equipment and specialist services.

One of the governor’s recent interventions is the installation of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) equipment at Edo Specialist Hospital, a major step aimed at expanding fertility services for couples experiencing challenges with conception.

The addition of the IVF facility is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel outside Edo State in search of assisted reproductive services while strengthening the hospital’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading specialist healthcare centres.

Stakeholders at the event described the investment as another demonstration of the Edo State Government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and expanding specialised medical services across the state.

Seven Years of Outstanding Achievements

During the celebration, Edo Specialist Hospital highlighted several milestones recorded since its establishment.

Among the achievements presented were:

Full accreditation of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Residency Training Programme by the West African College of Surgeons.
Accreditation by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
Family Medicine Residency accreditation.
Expansion of specialist services through investments in modern medical technology.
Upgrades to laboratory facilities, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Obstetrics and Gynaecology equipment and other critical healthcare infrastructure.
Introduction of IVF services through the newly installed fertility equipment.
Hospital management noted that these achievements have significantly improved the quality of healthcare delivery while positioning Edo Specialist Hospital as a centre of excellence for specialist medical care and residency training.

Growing Patient Confidence

Statistics released during the anniversary showed continued growth in patient patronage and service delivery.

According to the hospital, patient satisfaction has exceeded 85 per cent, while the Net Promoter Score stands at over 95 per cent, reflecting increasing public confidence in the hospital’s services.

The hospital also recorded steady increases in outpatient attendance, admissions, antenatal care, surgical procedures and other specialist healthcare services.
