Edo 2024 : No PVC Will Be Collected By proxy — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has made it clear that they will not distribute Permanent Voter Cards to anyone other than the registered voters themselves.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sam Olumekun, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed this information.

As per his statement, the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards to new applicants across the local government areas of Edo State will begin today.

The distribution at the ward level has been successfully concluded, with a remarkable 125,928 PVCs collected within just five days.

The figure represents 68.3% of the 184,438 new cards issued during the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise. This collection rate is the highest recorded by INEC since the introduction of CVR ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.

According to Olumekun, the collection was successfully carried out in all 192 wards of Edo State from August 22 to 26, thanks to a well-coordinated effort by INEC.

The commission attributed the success to its effective organization of PVCs by polling units, wards, and LGAs, as well as direct communication with voters regarding the availability of their cards.

As previously stated by the commission, Permanent Voter Cards from the recent Continuous Voter Registration in Edo State will be available for collection at two levels. During the period from Thursday, 22, to Monday, 26, August 2024, there were developments in all 192 wards. Additionally, in our 18 LGA offices.

The commission is delighted to inform the public that the collection at ward level has been successfully concluded. After analyzing the previous collection of PVCs, the commission has taken great care in organizing all the PVCs by Poling Units, Wards, and LGAs. In addition to that, we have created a collection register that contains all the necessary information about the voters who can collect their cards. This register has been uploaded to our website for easy access.

Furthermore, we reached out to them using the contact information they provided during registration. Out of the 184,438 new PVCs available, voters collected 125,928 cards, which accounts for 68.3 percent of the total. This is the highest percentage of PVCs collected in five days since the commission introduced the CVR ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.

The statement mentioned that a comprehensive breakdown of the collection by LGAs has been uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information.

The collection process will now be conducted at INEC’s 18 Local Government Area offices in Edo State. Voters will have the opportunity to pick up their PVCs from 28 August to 8 September 2024.

INEC has provided comprehensive information on the locations of its LGA offices on its website, urging voters who have not yet collected their PVCs to do so promptly.

Olumekun announced that the collection will resume in the 18 LGA offices in Edo State starting tomorrow, Wednesday, 28th August 2024, and will conclude on Sunday, 8th September 2024.

We kindly request that the remaining voters collect their PVCs in person from our LGA offices. It is important to note that the commission maintains its policy of not accepting cards through proxy. You can find all the necessary information about the locations of our LGA offices on our website.
