The Managing Director of Edo State Geographic Information Service (EdoGIS), Dr. Tony Ikpasaja, has described how the consultant appointed by former Governor Godwin Obaseki hampered the issue of certificates of occupancy (CoO) by shutting down the agency’s system.
Ikpasaja stated this Sunday when the executive of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy call in his office in Benin City.
Athletic gear In contrast to the 1,000 certificates of occupancy granted by the immediate previous government between 2023 and February 2025, he revealed that more than 9,000 certificates of occupancy were registered by the current administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo between February and April 17, 2025.
The head of EdoGIS stated that the organization recently acquired more advanced machinery to increase efficiency and guarantee that applications are processed as soon as possible.
He added that more than 7,500 files of applicants who wanted their land registered and recorded in the EdoGis database that had not been handled by the previous administration were passed down to the agency under his direction.
“As of today, I can boldly tell you that we have captured and processed over 9,000 files of Certificates of Occupancy.”
“Over 9,000 certificates of occupancy have been registered from February 2025 to date with the new software against 1000 registered from 2023 to February 2025.”
“When I came on board I met about 7,500 total files of applicants that were not attended to. It is disheartening that people will pay for registration and the files will be unattended,” he said.
However, Ikpasaja gave applicants the assurance that going forward, the database would handle and record their Certificates of Occupancy files.
