International Youth Day: Barr. George Omoruyi Ero Commends NDDC, Urges Youth to Embrace Technology and Shun Drug Abuse

On International Youth Day, marked under the global theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnership”, Barr. George Omoruyi Ero has applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its role in driving development and empowering young people in the region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ero said the NDDC’s initiatives over the past 25 years have significantly impacted the lives of youths in the Niger Delta and created opportunities for them to pursue meaningful growth. He stressed that the commemoration of International Youth Day should serve as a call to action for young Nigerians to harness the power of technology and digital skills to shape their future and contribute to national development.

“Embracing tech proficiency is pivotal for young people to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth,” he said. “The future belongs to a digitally skilled generation that can create solutions, build businesses, and drive innovation.”

Ero also cautioned young people to steer clear of drug abuse, describing it as a serious threat to their personal potential and the collective progress of their communities. He noted that substance abuse not only endangers individual health but also undermines the shared prosperity of the region.

Reflecting on the progress made by the NDDC since its establishment, Ero acknowledged its efforts in improving infrastructure, supporting education, and empowering youths through various programs. He described these contributions as vital to strengthening the social and economic fabric of the Niger Delta.

“As we celebrate International Youth Day, I call on young Nigerians to be agents of positive change, leveraging technology and partnerships to create a brighter tomorrow,” he added.
