Adams Oshiomhole under fire for saying Obaseki’s wife has no child
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has received criticism for his recent statement regarding Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki, and her childbearing status.
A controversy arose after a campaign event in Ubiaja, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) kicked off its governorship campaign for Esan South-East Local Government Area (LGA).
At the event, Betsy Obaseki emphasized the personal side of PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo by introducing his wife, Ifeyinwa. She encouraged women to rally behind Ighodalo, highlighting his marital status as a positive reflection of women’s empowerment in the upcoming September 21 election.
In a recent interview, Oshiomhole fired back at Betsy Obaseki, claiming that her statement about the marital status of APC candidate Monday Okpebholo was completely false. He then made a controversial comment about the Obasekis, noting that they do not have any children or have adopted any.
He expressed surprise at Mrs. Obaseki’s statement about our candidate’s marital status. She and her husband do not have any children and have not chosen to adopt. I understand that not everyone chooses to have children, but those who have a heart for children should consider adopting from homes where mothers are absent.
Oshiomhole highlighted the difference in Okpebholo’s family, pointing out that his children are highly educated and actively participating in the campaign.
Oshiomhole’s remarks have ignited a wave of criticism on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).
Theo Abu Agada expressed strong disapproval of the senator’s remarks, raising concerns about the depths to which he could sink. Gladys Onyetem expressed her criticism of Oshiomhole, highlighting how his actions contribute to negative perceptions of the APC. On the other hand, Unique Babatunde called for Oshiomhole’s removal from the Senate, describing his statements as demoralizing.
