The Edo State Government has approved automatic employment for two children of the late Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Kingsley Ogbodu, as part of measures to support his family following his death.

Governor Monday Okpebholo also approved financial assistance for the family as the state government mourned the senior civil servant and recognised his contributions to the Edo State public service.

The Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, disclosed the Governor’s decision during a meeting with members of the late Ogbodu’s family at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.

According to the Head of Service, the employment approval covers two of the deceased’s children, Peace Osahengae Ogbodu and Promise Osarugue Ogbodu, who will be employed into the Edo State Civil and Public Service.

The financial assistance and employment offer were presented as part of the Governor’s response to the impact of the sudden death on the deceased’s dependents.

Governor Approves Jobs for Two Children

Dr. Okungbowa said Governor Okpebholo recognised the difficulties the family could face following the loss of their father and approved the measures to provide support during the difficult period.

He said no government gesture could replace the loss of a family member, but the intervention was intended to reduce the financial burden created by the death of the late Permanent Secretary.

The Head of Service described Ogbodu as a hardworking, friendly and dedicated public servant who made valuable contributions to the state during his career.

He said the late Permanent Secretary was highly regarded within the civil service and that his death had created a difficult gap for the government and his colleagues to fill.

Who Are the Children Getting Automatic Employment?

The two children named under the Governor’s employment approval are:

  • Peace Osahengae Ogbodu
  • Promise Osarugue Ogbodu

The Edo State Government said both will be brought into the state’s Civil and Public Service.

The development means the two beneficiaries will have the opportunity to begin careers within the state government following the Governor’s approval.

The government, however, also encouraged them to see the opportunity as more than financial support from the state.

Okungbowa urged them to uphold the values of hard work, diligence and public service associated with their late father.

Edo Govt Also Approves Financial Assistance

Beyond the employment offer, Governor Okpebholo approved financial assistance for the family.

The Head of Service said the financial support was intended to help cushion the impact of the sudden loss on the deceased’s dependants.

He conveyed the Governor’s condolences to the family and assured them of the administration’s continued support.

The intervention was described as part of the government’s concern for the welfare of workers and their families.

Late Permanent Secretary Remembered as Dedicated Civil Servant

While mourning Ogbodu, the Head of Service described him as a committed member of the Edo State Civil Service.

Okungbowa said the late Permanent Secretary was known for his friendly disposition, hard work and dedication to his responsibilities.

He said Ogbodu’s contributions to the development of Edo State would be remembered, adding that the void created by his death would be difficult to fill.

The government official also encouraged the deceased’s children to preserve their father’s legacy by demonstrating the same commitment to service.

Family Reacts to Governor Okpebholo’s Gesture

Speaking on behalf of the family, Peace Ogbodu thanked Governor Okpebholo and the Edo State Government for the assistance.

She described the intervention as a demonstration of compassion at a difficult time for the family.

The family expressed appreciation for the financial support and employment opportunity provided by the state government following the death of their father.

The meeting was attended by other senior government officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Corporate Change, Communication and Performance Management, Dr. Peter Osagie, and the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Government House and Protocol, Mrs. Edith Sede.

The Governor’s intervention means the late Permanent Secretary’s children will receive both immediate financial support and an employment opportunity within the Edo State Civil and Public Service as the family continues to deal with his loss.
