Edo Police has arrested 37 people Over Sexual and Domestic Abuse and rescued 48 Kidnap Victims.
EdoToday reports that the Edo State Police Command has arrested 37 suspects for alleged involvement in sexual and domestic abuse across the state, as part of intensified efforts to curb gender-based violence and other criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed this in Benin City on Saturday during a press briefing highlighting the command’s security achievements for September 2025.
According to Agbonika, the suspects are facing prosecution for various offenses, including sexual assault, domestic violence, and gender-based crimes.
“The suspects have been investigated and are being prosecuted in court,” he said.
The Commissioner also revealed that the police recorded breakthroughs in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, and cultism within the period under review.
Anti-Kidnapping Operations and Rescue Efforts
Agbonika confirmed that seven suspected kidnappers were arrested while two others were neutralized during police operations. He added that 48 kidnapped victims were rescued safely through coordinated raids across different locations in Edo State.
Cultism Crackdown in Edo
The command also disrupted several cult initiation ceremonies in Benin City, Auchi, and Ekpoma, leading to the arrest of 38 suspected cultists, including leaders of rival gangs.
Agbonika noted that the sustained crackdown has drastically reduced cult-related killings in Benin City to zero within the last month.

The Police Commissioner attributed the success to intelligence-led policing, community partnership, and proactive crime prevention strategies.
