The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2025/2026 NDDC Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. The scholarship is targeted at qualified indigenes of the Niger Delta region who have secured admission for Master’s degree programmes in accredited Nigerian universities.

This fully funded NDDC scholarship aims to equip young graduates from the region with the education and skills required to contribute meaningfully to national development and regional transformation. The programme is part of the Commission’s broader commitment to human capital development and aligns with Nigeria’s local content policy.

Overview of the NDDC Postgraduate Scholarship Programme

The NDDC Local Postgraduate Scholarship supports Master’s degree studies in various fields that are vital to the economic and social development of the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.

Eligible Fields of Study Include:

  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Architecture

  • Engineering

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Geosciences

  • Humanities

  • Information Technology

  • Law

  • Management and Social Sciences

  • Medical Sciences

 

Eligibility Criteria for NDDC Scholarship 2025/2026

To qualify for the NDDC Postgraduate Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a bonafide indigene of the Niger Delta region

  • Be not more than 40 years old

  • Hold a First Class, Second Class Upper, or Second Class Lower degree

  • HND holders with Upper Credit and a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) may also apply

  • Must have secured admission into a recognized Nigerian university for a Master’s programme

 Selection Process for NDDC Scholarship

Applicants will go through a multi-stage screening process:

  1. Online Application through the official NDDC website: www.nddc.gov.ng

  2. Shortlisting based on academic records and community identification

  3. Computer-Based Test (CBT) in designated centers (Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers). A minimum score of 70% is required

  4. Oral Interview for successful CBT candidates

  5. Final Verification by respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs)

Required Documents

Applicants must upload the following during online registration:

  • A recent passport photograph

  • Local Government Identification Letter

  • Postgraduate admission letter from a Nigerian university

  • Degree or HND certificate (and PGD if applicable)

  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate

After submission, an application number will be generated. It is important to print the acknowledgment slip for reference.

Important Notes

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted at each stage

  • Preference will be given to candidates from oil-producing host communities and LGAs, provided they meet the minimum score

  • No deferral, course change, or institution switch will be permitted after selection

  • The NDDC reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding selection

1. Who can apply for the NDDC Postgraduate Scholarship 2025/2026?

Only applicants who are indigenes of the Niger Delta region, not older than 40 years, and already admitted into a recognized Nigerian university for a Master’s degree programme are eligible.

2. Is the NDDC Scholarship fully funded?

Yes, the NDDC Postgraduate Scholarship is fully funded. It covers tuition, accommodation, books, and other academic-related expenses for the duration of the Master’s programme.

3. Can HND holders apply for the NDDC scholarship?
