The Edo State Police Command has arrested and detained four suspected cultists following the killing of a motor park manager, identified simply as AK, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
Edotoday reports that the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday in Benin.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested on Sunday during a coordinated house-to-house operation conducted by the Anti-Cultism Unit in collaboration with officers from the Jattu and Auchi Divisional Police Stations.
CSP Yamu said the suspects, all in their mid-twenties, were believed to be behind ongoing cult-related violence in Auchi and neighbouring communities.
He said intelligence reports linked them to the murder of the motor park manager, which occurred on Saturday.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, assured the public that the command remains committed to eradicating cultism and restoring peace across the state. He added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
