Hon. Edosa Richard Osaro Partners with JCI to Deliver Free Health Outreach in Edo

In a practical display of leadership focused on the people, Hon. Dr. Edosa Richard Osaro, the lawmaker representing Oredo West Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, joined forces with JCI Edo Bronze and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council to sponsor a two-day free health outreach in Benin City.

The initiative, which took place over the weekend, was aimed primarily at journalists and members of the public who often struggle to access affordable healthcare. It provided a wide range of free medical services, including eye screenings, HIV and Hepatitis B testing, cervical cancer screening, tuberculosis tests, and general medical consultations.

Speaking with some of the beneficiaries, it was clear the outreach had a meaningful impact. One participant, a young mother who brought her two children for screening, said, “We don’t always have the chance to go for checkups because of the cost. This came at the right time.

A Lawmaker Who Walks the Talk

Hon. Edosa’s role in the success of the outreach has been widely praised. While many politicians make promises, he is one of the few who continue to deliver quietly but effectively. According to organizers, his involvement went beyond a formal endorsement , he played a hands-on role in mobilizing support and ensuring all necessary logistics were in place.

“He didn’t just send representatives. He followed up, checked in constantly, and genuinely wanted this to succeed,” said one member of the planning team.

In a brief chat with reporters at the event, Hon. Edosa said his commitment to community health stems from a belief that public office should be used to solve real-life problems.

“Our people are facing serious economic challenges, and healthcare should not be a luxury,” he said. “If we can provide opportunities like this to ease the burden, then we’re doing something meaningful.”

The outreach drew support from notable health and humanitarian organizations such as Heartland Alliance, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), Wilben Orphanage Foundation, Briella Eye Care, and the African Positive Youths Initiative of Nigeria (APYIN).

The President of JCI Edo Bronze, JC Efosa Eweka, described the project as part of their broader goal to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 3, which focuses on health and well-being.

“We are proud of this collaboration. Journalists play a critical role in society, but many don’t get the time or support to take care of their own health. This was a way of giving back,” Eweka noted.

Participants expressed hope that this wouldn’t be a one-time event. Several community members suggested setting up regular health outreaches, especially in rural areas.

Hon. Edosa didn’t rule that out. He hinted that more programs are in the pipeline — not just in Oredo West, but across other parts of Edo State where health infrastructure is limited.

“Our work doesn’t end here,” he said. “We’ll keep pushing initiatives that bring value to everyday people.”

Conclusion

In an era where political headlines often focus on controversies and power struggles, Hon. Edosa Richard Osaro is carving a different path — one defined by genuine service. His support for this outreach is a reminder that true leadership is about action, not noise.

For many who attended the event, the free health checks may have been routine. But the gesture behind it carried a message that’s rare in politics — you are seen, and you matter.
