For the next three months, the Bayelsa and Edo state chapters will be run by caretaker committees nominated by the Peoples Democratic Party’s South-South Zonal Working Committee.

Prince Etim Isong, the Zonal Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that the decision was made during Tuesday’s regular zone meeting at the Zonal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The statement read that; “The decision to set up caretaker committees for both states follows the dissolution of the State Working Committee of Bayelsa State and the Caretaker Committee in Edo State on account of various acts of gross misconduct by the dissolved executives which are in clear breach of the party’s constitution, the poor performance and woeful outing by the party in Edo State at the last governorship elections, and the poor handling of internal crisis rocking the party in both states.”

According to the statement, the Zonal Working Committee made decisions in the best interest of the party after a careful review of the party’s activities in the two affected states.

“The Zonal Working Committee took these decisions in the best interest of the party after a careful review of the activities of the party in both states in line with the constitution of the party as amended in 2017, particularly Articles 10(1),(f),(g),(k), and (4) as well as Articles 26(2),(a), 27(2)(a&b), 58(1),(a),(c),(i),(j), and 59(1)(f),” the statement said.

George Turnah is the chairman of the recently formed caretaker committee for Bayelsa State; Tony Gabriel is the deputy chairman; Ebilade Ekerefe is the secretary; Didi Ebiekake Werilaghebofa is the vice chairman for Central, Andy Majors is the vice chairman for East, and Evelyn Bolouebi Odi is the vice chairman for West.

Additional members of Bayelsa’s caretaker committee include Treasurer Biobelemoye Igoniwari, Legal Advisor Awudumapu Agorodi, Financial Secretary Erepagamo Eke-Spiff, Auditor Amain Oyeintariperedei, Publicity Secretary Derri Alasuote Wright, Organizing Secretary Christian Koffah Akuraku, Woman Leader Ato Alfreda, and Youth Leader Nicholas Eferebo.

President Nosa Ogieva was named chairman of Edo State, followed by Chief Sunny Okomayin as deputy chairman, Secretary Hillary Otsu, Vice Chairman South Nosa Iseleomon, Vice Chairman Central Ehisota Oriakhi, and Vice Chairman North Richard Ehimigbai.

Others include the following: Destiny Oreye, Youth Leader; Bob-Manuel Umoru, Publicity Secretary; William Umoru, Legal Advisor; Moses Izobo, Financial Secretary; Emma Akhaba, Auditor; Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye, Treasurer; and Mrs. Tes Sorae, Woman Leader.

The Zonal Working Committee said it hoped the daring action would fortify the party’s base and guarantee strong leadership in both states.

As he urged the caretaker committees to work toward true reconciliation among members in order to create the cohesiveness required for repositioning the party for future political success in both states, Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman South South Zone, also emphasized the significance of discipline and unity within the party.
