Oshiomhole Opposed Son’s Nomination as Commissioner – Edo Deputy Governor
EdoToday reports that the Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has disclosed that Senator Adams Oshiomhole opposed the nomination of his son, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, as the Commissioner for Health-designate. This appointment, announced by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has sparked conversations about competence versus nepotism.
Speaking on Channels Television, Idahosa clarified that Cyril’s appointment was based purely on merit. He described Cyril as a highly qualified medical professional who is trained in Nigeria and the United States and is fully capable of managing the health portfolio.
Idahosa emphasized that the decision was solely the governor’s, asserting that it aligns with the administration’s focus on competence and service delivery for the people of Edo State. Rejecting accusations of nepotism or “state capture,” he noted that Adams Oshiomhole had actively opposed the nomination despite being Cyril’s father.
“This decision has nothing to do with Oshiomhole’s influence. The governor prioritized competence and vision for Edo State,” Idahosa stated. He further addressed his role as deputy governor, underscoring his responsibilities with the boundary commission.
