Edotoday correspondent reports that Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has made key appointments to his administration, selecting seasoned professionals to serve in essential roles such as the State Attorney-General, Secretary to the State Government, and Health Commissioner. These appointments were announced by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, shortly after Okpebholo’s recent inauguration. Notably, Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the ceremony along with several All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Hope Uzodinma of Imo, among others. Former governor Adams Oshiomhole and APC National Chairperson Umar Ganduje were also present.

1. Musa Ikhilor – Secretary to the State Government (SSG)

• Education: Ikhilor holds an LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 2008.
• Experience: Over the past decade, he has specialized in legislative drafting, parliamentary administration, and constitutional processes. In 2019, he served as a consultant to the Federal House of Representatives on the review of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, focusing on topics such as gender equity, human rights, and institutional reform.
• Additional Roles: Ikhilor manages Springfield Legal Consult and is an executive director and board member of Amana Legacy Foundation, bringing a blend of corporate legal experience and dedication to social causes.
• Personal Life: Ikhilor is married and has children.

2. Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole – Commissioner for Health

• Background: Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, son of former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, has a robust background in medicine and public health.
• Education: Dr. Oshiomhole began his education at St. Anne’s Primary School and Command Secondary School before earning his MBBS degree from Ahmadu Bello University. He furthered his studies in public health, earning a Master’s degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, specializing in Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Disaster Management. He also completed advanced training at Harvard University in Clinical Research and at Queen Mary University, London, in Gastroenterology.

3. Dr. Samson Osagie – Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice

• Background: A distinguished lawyer with deep roots in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Dr. Samson Osagie has been a prominent figure in both law and politics. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995.
• Career and Education: Dr. Osagie has served as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and in the House of Representatives, where he rose to the role of Minority Whip. He holds a Law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, a qualifying certificate from the Nigerian Law School, and three Master’s degrees in Law, Public Administration, and International Relations. He also earned a Doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies.
• Additional Roles: With experience as a legal adviser, solicitor, and consultant, Dr. Osagie’s legal and policy acumen are expected to serve Edo State well as he leads the legal affairs of the state.
