Edo PDP Protests Over “Stolen Mandate” in September 21 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State isn’t backing down from its belief that the September 21 governorship election results were manipulated by APC and INEC. Yesterday, party leaders organized a peaceful protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Aduwawa, voicing their dissatisfaction with how the election played out.

Leading the protest were PDP’s state chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Campaign Council Director General, Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, and Rev. Olu Martins, the deputy in charge of media and publicity. They, along with hundreds of party supporters, carried placards demanding justice and singing songs of solidarity.

Their primary demand? For INEC to acknowledge Dr. Asue Ighodalo, their candidate, as the legitimate winner of the election. The protesters claimed that the election results were tampered with, particularly in certain local governments, to favor another candidate.

The protest caused quite a scene, disrupting traffic around the Ramat Park area along the busy Auchi-Benin expressway. Despite the chaos, the event remained peaceful, with police present to ensure order was maintained.

Dr. Aziegbemi, addressing the crowd, was adamant that the PDP won the election fairly and accused INEC of subverting the will of the people. He expressed confidence in the judicial process, saying, “We are certain the court will see the truth when we present our evidence. This fight isn’t over.”

For the PDP, this is not just about one election—it’s about ensuring that the voices of Edo’s people are heard and respected.
