According to the Edo State Police Command, a 32-year-old lady named Janet Dominic was taken into custody in the state in possession of firearms and ammunition.
In a statement provided to reporters in Benin City on Tuesday, Moses Yamu, the command’s public relations officer, said that the arrest had taken place during the mop-up of weapons.
Yamu stated that during a raid at the Iguezemwahu hamlet, located along Benin-Auchi Road in the state’s Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, on April 10, 2025, the culprit was taken into custody by the command’s X-Squad.
He said during the raid, “the said woman was arrested, while one Dominic, surname unknown, escaped from the scene on sighting the police.”
Two single-barrel firearms, three handguns, seven live cartridges, one knife, one trigger part, and one Beretta magazine were among the weapons and ammunition found on the suspect, according to the Command spokesman.
The weapons and ammo were hidden inside a motorcycle’s seat, he added.
Yamu said “Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.’
He added, “the achievement was part of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Monday Agbonika’s unwavering resolve to rid the state of crimes.”
