In order to look into the recent deaths in Uromi Village, a powerful committee appointed by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and headed by his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, left for Edo State on Thursday.
Tensions in the impacted neighborhood have increased as a result of the unfortunate event that happened last month. Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, the Deputy Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, stated that the group was assigned to conduct a mission of fact-finding and peace-building.
Among other high-ranking authorities, the committee is composed of notable individuals such as Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, the Emir of Rano; Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs; and the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area.
According to Shu’aibu, the committee was established in reaction to the outcry and mounting anxiety surrounding the violent attacks in Uromi that left many locals, including Kano State natives, displaced and resulted in multiple fatalities.
Before departing, Gwarzo gave a speech at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in which he reaffirmed the committee’s dedication to justice, peace, and reconciliation.
“Our mandate is clear – to investigate, to consult and to recommend sustainable solutions. This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence.”
“The tragic incident, which occurred last month, has heightened tensions in the affected community. As part of its assignment, the committee is scheduled to hold consultations with the Edo State Governor, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations during its week-long stay.”
“This initiative forms part of a broader intervention by the Northern Governors Forum to demonstrate solidarity, promote national unity and respond proactively to rising insecurity across the country,” he said.
