Residents of Edo are excited about the Eyoto Sports Academy Under-15 Athletics Championship, which is being hosted in partnership with the Edo State Sports Commission. More than 700 young athletes from schools in the five Local Government Areas in the Edo South Senatorial District participated in the two-day competition, which is ending today at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
On the first day of the tournament, they competed in events like the 100-, 400-, and 800-meter races and long jumping. With a time of 12.53 seconds, Joshua Joy defeated Omosivwe Treasure (12.62 seconds) and Emmanuel Augustina (13.09 seconds) to win the ladies’ 100-meter race.
Eyoto Sports Academy President Dr. Felix Idahosa had emphasized that the program’s goals are to find and develop young talent, offer scholarships, and make sure athletes succeed academically and athletically.
On his part, Athletics Head Coach Mutiu Oluwa had earlier declared that standout athletes will be monitored for future competitions, with scholarships awarded to ten exceptional performers.
Key executive council members of Eyoto Sports Academy including Dr. Festus Idahosa Erese, and Friday Enoye, are actively overseeing the event, ensuring fairness and success as the championship culminates today.
