The Edo State Football Association’s under-15 football carnival, known as the “Tanimu U-15 Football Tournament,” in Benin is sponsored by Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu.
The former Bendel Insurance FC defender has already contributed trophies for the competition, according to confirmation from the Edo State FA. In a few weeks, the Edo State Football Association will organize a football competition for the state’s under-15 football teams, which will take place throughout the three senatorial districts.
Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee, the chairman of the Edo Football Association, told reporters in Benin City over the weekend that Taniku, a former Bendel Insurance FC defense mainstay who began his career playing street football in Benin City, has made the decision to give back to the community where he was found.
Erhunmwunse disclosed that the former Paragon Sports Academy (Delight) youngster is very eager to help engage the youths of Edo State with this football tournament ,adding that the ex-Ihefu SC of Tanzania Star is impressed with the progress made so far in football development in Edo State by the Edo State Football Association since 2023 when this present Board came onboard.
“I want to inform us that in the next few days we shall begin the process of another big event in Edo state for our youth clubs, this time for under 15. Former Bendel Insurance defense strong man Benjamin Tanimu has donated a trophy to Edo FA to engage under 15 boys.
“The event will take place across the three senatorial districts of the State,” Erhunmwense said.
The Edo FA chair added, ”Benjamin came through the grassroots and he has become a huge success beginning from here in Benin City with Bendel Insurance. He is impressed with our programmes and wants to contribute to what we have done since 2023.”
“We are grateful to him and we promise to deliver as usual.”
The defender for Crawley Town FC of England claims that the winners will receive trophies, medals, the Most Valuable Player award, the Top Scorer award, the Best Midfielder, the Best Goalkeeper, the Best Defender, and other tournament mementos.
With the Edo FA serving as the organizers, Benjamin Tanimu becomes the second Super Eagles player after Osayi Samuel to make a donation to grassroots football in the state.
Meanwhile, the Edo FA boss has asked the various youth teams to begin preparation for the big tournament as registration w
ill commence soonest.
