The suspended chairmen of Edo’s eighteen local governments may have been invited to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) office to be questioned.
Abdulkarim Chukkol, the Director of Investigation for the EFCC, sent a letter to the Secretary of the State Government with the invitation. The chairmen of Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North East, Esan South East, and Esan West were instructed by Mr. Chukkol in a letter dated December 17 to report to the office on Thursday, December 19.
The chairmen of the local governments of Etsako Central, Etsako East, and Etsako West are also anticipated to attend the commission on Thursday.
On Friday, December 20, the remaining chairmen from the local governments of Igueben, Ikpoba Okha, Orhionmwon, Ovia North East, Ovia South West, Owan East, Owan West, and Uhunmwode are expected to report.
The director of inquiry for the commission asked the chairmen to bring certified true copies of all the paperwork pertaining to payroll and staffing levels. Details of the accounts where money is received for staff salary payments, accounts where money is set aside for staff salary emergencies, and the statement of accounts for the aforementioned accounts from January 1 to the present were among the other documents that were required.
He said the request was made pursuant to Section 38(1);(2) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.
Edotoday recalls that the state House of Assembly had on Dec. 17 suspended the chairmen and the vice chairmen for alleged insubordination and misconduct.
The suspension reportedly followed their failure to submit their financial statements as directed by Gov. Monday Okpebholo.
