Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governor of Edo State, has vacated his seat, according to a statement made by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
This came after Idahosa was elected deputy governor in the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election. On November 12, 2024, Idahosa, a former member of the House representing the Ovia Federal seat, was sworn in as deputy governor.
House Leader Julius Ihonvbere asked MPs to proclaim the seat vacant so that the process of choosing a substitute to serve the people of Ovia could begin in a letter read on the House floor.
Four House seats are currently open as a result of this announcement. To fill the vacancies, new elections are anticipated to be held by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
