Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, called for a review of security tactics to curtail instability in Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States. Speaking to reporters following the Ibadan meeting, the PDP Governors’ Forum made the request.
The Governor’s Office conference room in Agodi, Ibadan, served as the venue for the meeting. Senator Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum; Ahmad Fintiri of Adamawa State; Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State; Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State; Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State; Barrister Caleb Mutgwang of Plateau State; Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State; and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State were among those present at the gala night.
Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi represented Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, while Monday Onyeme represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.
The resolution was presented by Senator Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, following the closed-door meeting.
Mohammed, who read the speech on behalf of the governors, said the Forum finds the worsening security situation, as exhibited in areas of the country, especially Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States.
In addition to adopting a bottom-up template that ensures the sub-nationals constitute an effective line of defense against security breaches, the forum asks for a review and reordering of objectives and tactics.
“While raising the concerns above, we condemn the recent attacks in Plateau State, and commiserate with the government and people of the state especially those who lost property during this unfortunate mishap.”
