President Tinubu Appoints Patrick Obahiagbon as NDPHC Executive Director
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Edo lawmaker Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as the Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Obahiagbon replaces Engineer Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who resigned from the position to pursue his political ambition in Edo State.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
Who is Patrick Obahiagbon?
Patrick Obahiagbon is a renowned Nigerian lawyer and politician from Edo State, widely recognised for his exceptional command of the English language and his long-standing career in public service.
Born in Edo State, Obahiagbon studied Law at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, where he qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He began his political career in the Edo State House of Assembly, where he served as a member before moving to the National Assembly.
Obahiagbon later represented Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he became one of Nigeria’s most popular lawmakers. During his time in the Green Chamber, he attracted nationwide attention for his eloquent speeches and extensive vocabulary, earning him widespread recognition among Nigerians.
Beyond politics, he is also a legal practitioner, public speaker and advocate for good governance.
New Role at NDPHC
As Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Obahiagbon will be responsible for helping shape the company’s strategic direction, commercial operations and long-term growth plans.
The NDPHC plays a critical role in Nigeria’s electricity sector through the development and management of power generation and transmission infrastructure under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).
His appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s efforts to improve power infrastructure and support the Federal Government’s drive to enhance electricity supply across the country.
Presidency Confirms Appointment
The Presidency stated that Obahiagbon’s appointment forms part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reposition key government agencies by appointing experienced individuals with proven records in leadership and public service.
His appointment comes alongside other approvals made by the President, including the appointment of Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) and the reappointment of Chukwuma Umeoji as Executive Director, Corporate Services, of the NDPHC.
According to the statement, all the appointments take effect immediately.
