Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo (second from left), gave Governor Monday Okpebholo (left) a good rating for his performance in the first month of his term in office, claiming that he had set a new record in the state’s history of government.

Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo State, gave Governor Monday Okpebholo a high rating for his performance in the first month of his term in office and claimed that he had set a new milestone for the state’s governance history.

Speaking to reporters at his home in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State, Oshiomhole made this assessment on Thursday.

Expressing satisfaction with Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach to governance, Oshiomhole said he was pleased that the Edo people are now experiencing true and practical governance after eight years of what he described as rhetoric and MOUs under Obaseki’s administration.

Oshiomhole said: “We have in the history of Edo, for the first time, a Governor who started making appointments from the first day in office. No day, no minute, no second is lost. He has also made a number of profound decisions within these few days in office.

“Everyone in Edo is a witness to the fact that the Governor from day one hit the ground running, appointing people into critical positions so that those sectors do not lack. For example, Justice, Health, and SUBEB, because the issue of basic education is very dear to his heart, and you cannot suspend it even for a few minutes.”

The former governor also commended Okpebholo’s efforts to address infrastructural development, stressing that Edo people are already feeling the impact of his administration as contractors have been mobilised back to sites to address critical areas and bring relief to the populace.

Oshiomhole said: “In addition, he has mobilized contractors back to sites, carrying out appropriate surveys to ensure that his commitment to infrastructure starts immediately.”

“People already know that there is a new Sheriff in town. He is stopping all the bad guys and halting the bleeding that Edo was going through.” It is not a secret that LG Councils were paying huge amounts of money to his predecessor (Godwin Obaseki), and he says, ‘Stop, not while I am here. We want the money to be used to develop the localities.’

“There are a lot of profound decisions he has taken, and as I keep saying, ‘minimum words, maximum wisdom.’ What people need after eight years of rhetoric and MOUs is action—things they can see, things that they can feel. He is already delivering eye-mark projects, what people can see.

“I think he has done extremely well. Those working with him, he brings them close. He has a collective decision-making process, not because he cannot do without them, but because he believes that two good heads are better than one. I am very proud of him, and I think the people are happy. That is what I get from outside. I am satisfied that we are in safe hands. I can proudly say to Edo people that Edo is now back in safe hands, and that is the hands of Senator Monday Okpebholo.”

Governor Okpebholo promised that the Edo people will witness more good things in 2025.

He added that with a new budget and credible people already appointed, critical sectors of the economy will receive the needed boosts in 2025.

Governor Okpebholo recently made headlines when he appointed members of his cabinet, inaugurated board members, and flagged off major road construction projects—all within a few hours into his administration.
