Murphy Osarao Omoruyi, a lawmaker in the House of Representatives who represents Edo’s Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, has given 120 of the top students from the district’s public secondary schools a N10 million scholarship.
According to Omoruyi, the scholarship was given in accordance with his pledge to give the top pupils in his area an annual book scholarship.
Murphy Osaro Omoruyi’s annual scholarship program for Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in the constituency is being awarded for the second time.
The scholarship was awarded to 120 students, four of whom were top-performing SSS 3 students from public schools in the Egor and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas.
With the scholarship, students will be able to buy all the textbooks and study aids they need to do better on the upcoming National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.
The students were given enough branded notebooks to cover their last year of coursework in addition to the N10M.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the federal lawmaker said no nation could make any meaningful development without education, adding that that was what informed his commitment and investment in the sector.
Omoruyi promised to sustain the annual scholarship programme as long as he continued to represent the two local government areas in the National Assembly.
He admonished the students to put the fund to good use, adding that by so doing, he would be encouraged to do more.
Some of the benefiting students who could not hide their excitement assured Omoruyi of judicious use of the fund even as they prayed to God to bless his tenure in the National Assembly with wisdom and sound health.
