During a visit to offer condolences to the family of former Edo NLC Chairman Anthony Kaduna Ebiogbodin, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo talks. The daughter of the late Comrade Anthony Kaduna Ebiogbodin, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Chapter, who passed away recently, has been granted an automatic job by Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.
According to reports, after a confrontation with Benin City police, Ebiogbodin slumped and passed away. While paying a condolence visit to the deceased’s widow and family members on Saturday, the governor expressed his disapproval of his passing.
Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide, the Acting NLC Chairman in Edo State, as well as other state leaders from organized labor and civil society groups accompanied him.
Additionally, Okpebholo pledged that his government will work with Umoru Ozigi, the State’s Police Commissioner, to make sure that officers’ actions don’t endanger Edo State citizens.
The governor pointed out that if only the police officers had behaved properly at the checkpoint, when he collapsed after a furious dispute, the death may have been prevented.
“It is painful that we have lost a soul in this manner, but I will talk to the police about their conduct so that they will behave well and conduct themselves well in the state,” Okpebholo was quoted in a statement by his spokesman, Fred Itua.
“He is gone. It is painful, but that is life, as we all will die one day. I feel sad over the circumstances surrounding his death, but he is gone. No man knows who is next,” the governor concluded.
Acting Chairman NLC, Comrade Egwakhide and some leaders of the Civil Society Organizations, including Rev. David Ugolor and Barr. Abraham Oviawe, called for a holistic investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the death of Com. Eboigbodin.
- Governor Okpebholo, thereafter, signed the condolence register in honour of late Comrade Eboigbodin who died at the age of 64.
