15 individuals were detained on Friday for running private security guard businesses in the state without a license, according to the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.
Five private security companies were also shut down by the corps, according to Gbenga Agun, the corps’ State Commandant, who made this announcement in Benin at a celebration to commemorate the start of a new year and his one-year anniversary.
Agun further mentioned that throughout the review period, 96 private guards were trained by the command’s Private Guards Companies Department.
110 people were detained for a variety of crimes in the state in 2024, he said, adding that five of the cases were brought to court, with five rulings obtained in the corps’ favor and six more still pending.
In addition, he stated that among other interventions, the command’s anti-fraud team recovered N1,655,000 for a number of victims during the reviewed year. He claims that by handling 25 instances of Agro Rangers Unit intervention, the command was able to stop violent conflicts between farmers and herders.
“The corps also provided security services to farms like Okomu, Ellah Lakes Farms and NCSC Farms, among others. The Peace and Conflict Unit of the command also resolved 59 cases,” he said.
