The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has threatened to take drastic measures against any physician who persists in encouraging division within the organization. Following the conclusion of an evaluation of chapter elections in the states of Enugu, Zamfara, Edo, and Kogi, the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the NMA issued the warning.
The elections held in those states were approved by it. This was stated in a statement signed by Dr. Ben Egbo, the Association’s secretary general, and Prof. Bala Audu, the NMA president, which was released during a recent meeting in Abuja.
The NEC approved the appointment of Dr. Chukwuemeka Nelson Agbo as Secretary and Dr. Chibuzor Ndiokwelu as Chairman in the Enugu case.
“The NEC ratified the interventions of the National Officers Committee (NOC) in resolving electoral issues in Edo, Zamfara, and Kogi states and validated the election results in these states.
“Furthermore, the NEC upheld the election of Dr. Chibuzor Ndiokwelu as Chairman and Dr. Chukwuemeka Nelson Agbo as Secretary of NMA Enugu State, recognizing the absence of pre- or post-election petitions to the NEC challenging the electoral process in the state,” it said in the resolution.
Reacting through a press statement made available to journalists on Sunday, Ndiokwelu gave a warning that “mechanisms have been activated via the regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies for punitive measures to curtail the activities of any Medical Doctor engaging in nefarious activities.”
He cautioned the public that any individual or group claiming to represent the NMA Enugu State branch, “other than the Executive Committee led by Dr. Ndiokwelu Chibuzo, is doing so illegitimately.
“Any transactions or dealings with such impostors will be at the individual’s own risk.
“By order of the National Executive Council, Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Ndiokwelu Chibuzo led Exco is validated and empowered to be in charge of running its Enugu State branch of the Association for 2024/26 Exco year.”
