With Edo scheduled to get the unity torch to light the celebration on Monday (today), the highly anticipated Niger Delta Sports Festival is destined to start on April 1st.
The torch is already making its way from one of the nine participating states in the zone to another. On behalf of the Edo State government, the torch will be presented to Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission.
Athletes, coaches, and Edo State Sports Commission employees are anticipated to gather at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at 8:00 am to join the Honorable Chairman, Amadin Enabulele, in welcoming the torchbearers, according to Mrs. Sabina Chikere, Executive Director, Sports Development and Operations.
Chikere said that “the Executive Chairman on receiving the festival torch, will immediately lead the team of sports men and women to the Government House where they will hand it over to the Governor of Edo State Senator Monday Okpebholo.”
The Festival Torch will arrive in Benin on Monday, March 24, 2025, after being lit in a colorful celebration at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on March 21, 2025.
The Niger Delta Sports Festival is set for April 1–8, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. It is an initiative to develop athletic potential in the nine mandate states that was supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The event takes place in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, from April 1 to April 8. It is anticipated that 500 coaches and roughly 3000 participants would participate in the festival.
