Massive Advancements in Human Capital Development at EDSOGPADEC
Human capital development includes a range of actions aimed at improving human lives, including measures to create jobs and basic amenities like health, education, and nutrition.
Over time, the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) has implemented a number of policies and programs to support the development of indigenous people’s human capital in the target oil and gas-producing Local Government Areas of the State (Ikpoba Okha, Ovia North East, and Orhionmwon LGAs). The commission’s mandate is to intervene in key areas of infrastructure and human capital development in these areas.
The Commission’s Aguakpa Ghe’ Igbama (youth/women empowerment initiatives) are primarily focused on skill development, with the goal of upskilling indigenous people in the three oil-producing regions by teaching them skills like plumbing, welding and fabrication, catering, and many more. The next step is enterprise development, which consists of several phases to guarantee that the learned skills are effectively applied and that participants may use what they have learned to launch their small enterprises.
To help successful candidates get their firms off the ground, the Commission gives them the tools they need and a year of business accommodations.
Business mentorship is the final stage of the Aguakpa Ghe’ Igbama. This aspect takes care of the need to guide the entrepreneurs towards excelling in their various businesses. This stage also ensures monitoring and evaluation, counseling and provision of the necessary encouragement and assistance to help them succeed in their various chosen careers. Aguakpa Ghe’ Igbama has successfully helped to improve the lives of over 150 youths and women in the oil and gas-producing areas of the State.
Similarly, in a bid to Fulfill the Commission’s mandate as an interventionist Agency, The Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC ) recently presented a cheque of 2.9 million naira to 29 Law graduates with each getting a hundred thousand naira to cover expenses of their wigs and gowns in the Nigeria Law School. The Law graduates are indigenes drawn from the three oil-producing areas of the State with their Local Government certification under the umbrella of the National Association of Edo State Law Students in Nigeria Indigenes.
