In Benin City, the capital of Edo State, an unnamed young woman was allegedly seen carrying a four-year-old student around Okpakha Road, Eyean community, on the state’s Benin-Auchi Road.
According to reports, the woman approached the young boy near a nearby private school and carried him on her back while pretending to be helping him. When the baby began to cry, she reportedly ran out of luck, which prompted onlookers to start interrogating her about the child. The woman allegedly admitted that a Yahoo boy had paid her N150,000 to bring a male child to him.
The woman was seen sitting on the ground, naked, while being attacked by a mob. A voice in the video said, “Look at her, she was caught stealing a four-year-old boy.” She was then given a shirt to wear before being taken to the police station.
SP Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, responded that the social media report and the claim that the woman was given N150,000 were untrue, stating that the woman had a medical condition that made her drawn to children and that her mother had brought the patient appointment card from the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital in Benin City.
“Her next hospital appointment on the card is December 27. Investigation has commenced and the mother said the condition started in 2019 while she was in school when she suddenly lost concentration,” he said.
Yamu said the command had written to the hospital to confirm the authenticity of the medical card.
