Governor Okpebholo Inspests Benin City’s Ongoing 7.2-Km Temboga Road Project
The ongoing building of the 7.2km Temboga-Ekiuwa Road, which connects the University of Benin (UNIBEN), has been inspected by Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State.
Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government, announced this in a press release on November 26, 2024. Stormwater channelization through Ekiuwa Road connects Uteh and other settlements, and the project was launched on November 13—just 24 hours after Governor Okpebholo took office—and ends at UNIBEN in Ugbowo, Egor Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, emphasizing the road’s importance as a bypass to Ugbowo. “This road was unpassable in time past as it has been bad for years. Residents living here have suffered for years without government presence. The people in this area found it difficult to move, but the situation will now change as the road will help them link up with the UNIBEN,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo highlighted the state’s efforts toward infrastructure development, stating, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has enthroned the renewed hope agenda for Nigeria, and this is the step my administration is taking to develop Edo State and ensure that Edo is renewed. With these massive projects going on now, we can see that we are ready to transform the State as we have embarked on massive road infrastructure to transform Edo State.”
He also examined cleanup efforts at Upper Mission Extension Road close to Aduwawa Junction while there. Locals and businesspeople praised the governor for bringing democracy’s benefits and conveyed gratitude for the administration’s prompt action.
Residents from a variety of backgrounds, such as Mrs. Blessing Thomas, Vero Itua, Miracle Olujobi, and Peter Afekena, commended the governor for taking swift action to address the region’s persistent problems. They noted that the Governor had shown leadership centered on the well-being of the people by bringing “new light” to the community within days of assuming office.
“The time we came here to campaign, I saw the situation of the road and I told them that we were coming back, and today we are back to see the level of work done so far,” Okpebholo noted, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to ensuring progress across Edo State.
