Governor Monday Okpebholo Suspends Revenue Collections, Orders Arrest of Defaulters

In a decisive move, the Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has indefinitely suspended all state revenue collections, particularly in motor parks and other revenue-generating areas, effective immediately. This suspension is intended to allow a thorough review of the revenue collection process across the state.
The announcement was conveyed through a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, which underscored the seriousness of the governor’s directive. The statement reads:
“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested.”
In line with this directive, the governor has instructed the State Commissioner of Police to take immediate action against anyone defying the order. The police are to arrest any individuals or agents found collecting revenue on behalf of the state until the review process concludes.
The governor plans to address the underlying issues and public concerns regarding revenue collection, with updated guidelines to be issued soon. Until then, the suspension remains in full effect.
This decision is anticipated to bring significant changes to revenue administration in Edo State, as the government seeks to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in its revenue systems.
