In a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the appointment of Theophilus Egbodion, a seasoned professional and public servant, as the first Chairman of the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
Egbodion, who was born in Uromi, Edo State, in 1978, has continuously shown excellence and dedication in his personal and professional endeavors despite being physically challenged. He expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity and promised to serve with compassion, putting the needs of those with disabilities first.
- Completed his secondary education at Federal Government College in Warri in 2000.
- He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma in 2006.
- His leadership abilities and knowledge led to his initial appointment as Special Adviser to the Local Government Chairman of Esan North East.
In 2011, Egbodion began working as a Data Processing Officer at the prestigious Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), where his hard work and knowledge helped him advance through the ranks.
In July 2022, the Edo State Government passed the Edo State Persons Living with Disability into Law, which, among other things, aims to fully integrate individuals with disabilities into society and safeguard their rights.
