Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has urged members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo Central Senatorial District to remain united and committed as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the call during an interactive meeting with APC stakeholders, party members and support groups in Esan Central Local Government Area, where he stressed that unity and teamwork would be key to strengthening the party’s chances at the polls.
The engagement, held at the governor’s residence in Irrua and the Okaijesan Town Hall, was aimed at improving party cohesion, addressing members’ concerns and mobilising support ahead of the 2026 local government elections and the 2027 presidential election.
The meeting was attended by APC candidates contesting the July 11, 2026 local government election, as well as 51 councillorship candidates across the five local government areas in Edo Central.
The governor also met with members of the Esan Central Bike/Keke Riders Association, Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA), and the Arewa community in the senatorial district.
Addressing the gathering, Okpebholo called on party members to set aside internal differences and work together to achieve success for the APC.
“Politics is all about give and take. I called this meeting to see faces I have not seen for a long time. This is the time to tell ourselves the truth, and seeing you here shows that I am supported,” the governor said.
He added that the APC in Edo Central must remain united and focused on delivering victory for the party in future elections.
Okpebholo expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would receive strong support from Edo State in the 2027 presidential election, citing the impact of federal government policies and projects across the country.
He also praised the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects in Edo, particularly the rehabilitation of the Ekpoma-Ehor road, which he said had improved movement and economic activities in the area.
The governor defended the removal of fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration, describing it as a difficult but necessary decision aimed at redirecting resources towards development.
While addressing transport operators, Okpebholo promised continued support for their activities and encouraged them to contribute towards the party’s electoral goals.
He also disclosed that Nigeria’s First Lady would soon visit Edo State to support women through business empowerment loans under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
APC Deputy State Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, urged party members to remain supportive of the administration and work towards victory in the upcoming elections.
He said maintaining political leadership was important to sustaining ongoing development efforts across Edo State.
