The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman, South-South, Dan Orbih, yesterday accused former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki of allegedly ruining the party with backing from some unhappy members in Edo State.
Orbih stated that he played a key role in Obaseki’s rise to power during his reelection in 2020, when he served as the state PDP chairman and supported the former governor’s campaign throughout the state’s 192 wards.
During the formal launching of a new state secretariat, Orbih gave a personal donation to the party’s Edo State chapter, stating that the small donation is an attempt to revive the PDP in the state and the South-South.
He also bemoaned the damage done to the PDP by Obaseki and his associates during the previous administration, adding that the state chapter of the party does not have a working secretariat to carry out its responsibilities.
He bemoaned the fact that the South-South National Vice Chairman’s party could not remain homeless, which is why the secretariat was donated to the Ede PDP.
Obaseki slaughtered and buried the PDP in Edo, according to the South-South National Vice Chairman, who also said that Obaseki needs to answer for the enormous sum of money he promised to deliver for numerous projects, including the GeleGele Seaport, which he said has not yet been completed. He urged true party members to stand together in the fight to reform the party, pointing out that the PDP is a strong party in spite of its internal issues.
He also rejected the allegations that the PDP’s problems were caused by Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister. Orbih stated that the Edo State PDP is committed to working with and partnering with only sincere and devoted party members who have the party’s best interests in mind.
He claimed that Obaseki and the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, which included Tony Aziegbemi as the chairman, Henry Duke Tenebe as the acting secretary, and Chris Nehikhare as the publicity secretary, were actively involved in dismantling the Edo party and were therefore unable to lead the party to victory.
However, yesterday, Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, reassured the people of Edo that his administration is committed to working hard and making greater progress.
The governor made the promise at a victory dinner celebrating his win at the election petition tribunal on Monday night at the Government House’s New Festival Hall in Benin City.
As his administration has embraced the pragmatic governance style, Okpebholo, who also praised President Bola Tinubu, noted that Edo people will see more positive developments following the tribunal’s confirmation of his victory. In addition, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, has hailed Okpebholo on his triumph at the tribunal.
In a statement signed by the Edo NMA chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, the NMA congratulated Governor Okpebholo, saying: “We are confident that this victory will bolster his efforts to drive development in Edo State. We reaffirm our commitment to a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the state.”
The NMA urged the governor to deliver on his campaign promises to the people and wished him a successful tenure.
