For the Easter celebration, the Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have sent at least 2,300 troops around the state.
In a separate statement provided to reporters in Benin City on Thursday, the State Sector Commander of the FRSC and Cyril Mathew, the Commandant of NSCDC in the state counterpart, Agun Gbenga, revealed this.
In addition to 1,300 from the NSCDC and 950 from the FRSC, the officers provided a breakdown of the number of troops sent by each agency. The deployment, according to the security agencies, was made to guarantee a smooth Easter celebration throughout the state.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander, 437 special marshals and 513 normal marshals will be deployed to the state.
Along with the deployment of personnel, Matthew said the command also planned to set up mobile courts in each of the state’s three senatorial districts.
In addition to the deployment of personnel, he said the command also deployed three patrol vans, eighteen vehicles, two trucks, five vehicles, three ambulances, and two power bikes.
Matthew said the goal of the deployments and the mobile court was to ensure safety and minimize crashes during the celebration, but he also urged drivers and other road users to strictly follow traffic laws and regulations to prevent accidents.
He clarified that the special patrol team would be on the road controlling traffic from April 18 to 23, 2025, making sure that every area of the state is covered.
The deployment of the 1,350 personnel, according to NSCDC Commandant Gbenga Adun, will provide maximum security at various places of worship, monuments, and recreation areas throughout the state throughout the celebration.
According to a statement issued by Ogbebor Efosa, Head of the State Command’s Public Relations and Media Unit, the command had increased the scope of its intelligence network in order to quickly address any security threats that might have arisen during that time.
However, the commandant reassured the state’s citizens that the command’s first priority will continue to be protecting the lives and property of state citizens prior to, during, and following the festival celebration.
He said that all commanders, chiefs of tactical units, area commanders, and divisional officers had received instructions from the state commandant to guarantee a safe, crime-free celebration of Easter before, during, and after.
He urged the public to support the staff by providing them with helpful information on criminal elements and to cooperate as much as possible.
As we commemorate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Agun also counseled the people of the state to assist the state government in its efforts to develop the state and to let peace rule.
