The campaign team of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to concentrate on their court appeal rather than engaging in smear campaigns against him. According to the APC team, the PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, should focus on their legal battle at the Court of Appeal following the nullification of their primary election. In a statement released by Godswill Inegbe, Legislative Aide on Media & Communication for Senator Okpebholo, it was noted that the Federal High Court in Abuja invalidated the PDP primary election on July 4, 2024. This ruling has left the PDP in disarray, leading to their desperate attempts to spread falsehoods about Senator Okpebholo, Inegbe stated.
Justice Inyang Ekwo’s judgement has had a significant impact on the PDP, causing widespread disillusionment among its members. In their effort to recover, the PDP has allegedly resorted to paying unidentified individuals to spread baseless stories against the APC candidate.
One of the latest false claims circulating is that Senator Okpebholo has enrolled in an adult education class to learn basic subjects. Inegbe clarified that Senator Okpebholo holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Abuja and has completed his thesis for a Master’s in Governance and International Relations from the same institution.
“We sympathize with the PDP in their current political frustration following the nullification of their primary election results. However, we advise them to focus on their appeal at the Court of Appeal rather than engaging in smear campaigns against the APC candidate, who is not responsible for their political misfortunes,” Inegbe concluded.
