Honorable Joseph Ikpea, the former Commissioner for Solid Mineral, Oil, and Gas in Edo State, expressed interest in the Edo Central Senatorial Seat, which the Senate (National Assembly) just announced was open.
Remember that His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, the state governor, had previously held the Edo senatorial seat.
In accordance with the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended, Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared the senatorial seat vacant after reviewing the letter that Okpebholo had submitted to the Senate. According to the development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would choose a new senator through a bye-election.
Hon. Ikpea told reporters in Benin that he has remained a staunch supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has helped the party develop into what it may be—a powerful force in the state.
He added that his choice to seek for the open senate seat was driven by his unwavering belief in providing humanitarian services to the public. Ikpea went on to say that he is a tried-and-true political leader who has fulfilled his leadership duties in order to get the intended outcomes for the populace.
The senatorial candidate insisted that his extensive experience, particularly from his various roles inside the state, had distinguished him from other candidates.
“I stand today to present myself as a humble servant to contest the seat of Edo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, which was declared vacant recently. You all know me from my background.
I was a member of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board during Chief Lucky Igbinedion’s administration.
‘I was a commissioner under Godwin Obaseki’s administration, and I was a chairman of Esan South-East Local Government Area in Edo State.
“With these experiences, I have all it takes to bring development to the people,” he contended.
